I woke up from a night of ordinary dreams. The kind where you dream about reluctantly strolling out of bed and taking a shower. Or washing the dishes. Or, for some reason, being fixated on the realization that your cell phone background has changed. Or, even worse, laying in bed dreaming about laying in bed.
I thought I was already awake when the sound of the alarm interrupted things. It felt sort of like a movie. I got up with 30 minutes to shower, change, and hop downstairs into the van. Welcome to my morning tour ritual.
The results of our breakfast vote took us to Whole Foods, where I sat outside and watched a bumblebee cling to the stem of a red flower and do whatever it is that bees do when they meet a bout of pollen. So mechanical. routine. fascinating. A canary colored butterfly stuttered through. A blue, yellow and black lizard scurried across the mulch. Is it surprising that I spent the duration of the drive listening to music and watching the trees blur past and noting all the flowers I'd wanna pick and press and keep? I am pretty enamored with watching the world. And maybe that's part of what I love about being on tour. Driving through this America.
Last night wasn't my favorite show ever, and tonight may have its own feats. It is not perfect. Often things are quite ordinary. Regardless, I feel at ease in this pace, and maybe it's just because today is only the fifth day of tour, but I really love this.
